The opening, fully resolved. Sliding doors in steel and glass.
Every sliding door system we design begins with what the project requires โ the opening dimensions, the wall depth, the glass specification and the finish. Steel or Sky-Frame aluminium: we develop the solution from the brief.
When a door needs to open fully โ without the swing arc.
A sliding door solves a specific spatial problem: the need to open or close a space without the floor area a hinged door consumes. In a premium interior, that solution should not introduce a new one โ a heavy-looking system, tracks that interrupt the floor, or panels that do not align precisely when closed.
Every system Royal Design Marbella produces is designed around the specific opening, the wall depth and the design intent of the space. Steel or Sky-Frame aluminium โ profile thickness, glass weight, track design and hardware are all determined by what the project requires.

What makes a steel sliding door different from a standard system
Most sliding door problems are engineering problems in disguise โ panels that drift, tracks that show, frames that look heavier than they need to. A well-specified steel and glass sliding system eliminates all of them before fabrication begins.
- 0101
The full opening
clears completelyUnlike a hinged or pivot door, a sliding system removes the panel from the opening entirely. The connection between two spaces โ interior to terrace, kitchen to living area โ becomes unobstructed. In the right project, this is the only solution that works.
- 0202
No swing arc
consuming floor spaceA sliding door requires no clearance zone in front of it. In tight interior layouts โ between a kitchen and a hallway, or dividing a living space โ this is often the deciding factor. The panel moves parallel to the wall and out of the way.
- 0303
Minimal profiles,
maximum glassSteel allows frame profiles far slimmer than timber or standard aluminium. The result is a door where the glass dominates and the frame almost disappears โ preserving sightlines, natural light and the visual continuity of the space on both sides of the opening.

Interior and exterior,
one approachThe same project-specific thinking applies whether the brief calls for an internal room divider or a full-span exterior system. For exterior applications requiring certified thermal and weather performance, we install Sky-Frame and MHB systems โ the benchmark for this type of work on the Costa del Sol.
Every element specified for the project
There is no standard configuration in what we produce. Every sliding door system begins with the opening โ dimensions, wall depth, substrate and design intent โ and is developed from there.
When the opening connects interior to exterior
Exterior sliding doors demand more than considered design. They require certified thermal performance, weatherproof engineering and hardware built for exposure. For these projects, Royal Design Marbella installs Sky-Frame and MHB โ two of the most technically advanced sliding door systems available.
Sky-Frame is the benchmark for frameless exterior sliding. A Swiss-engineered aluminium system where the glass panel moves without a visible perimeter frame โ floor to ceiling, uninterrupted. The result is an opening that eliminates the boundary between the interior and the view beyond it. Sky-Frame produces five system types: Classic, Plain, Arc, Slope and Pivot, each addressing a specific architectural condition.
- Frameless aluminium โ no visible perimeter frame, glass appears to float
- Flush floor track โ no raised threshold, clean transition to exterior
- Certified thermal performance โ triple-glazed units available
- Panels up to 3.5m high, 3m wide per leaf
- Classic, Plain, Arc, Slope, Pivot โ five system types for every architectural condition
MHB produces handcrafted solid steel sliding systems where the frame is part of the design intent โ precise, visible and architecturally considered. Their patented SL30-ISOยฎ profile system delivers ultra-slim 30mm sightlines with thermal break performance, available in panels up to 3.6m wide without structural reinforcement. Where Sky-Frame disappears, MHB is designed to be seen.
- SL30-ISOยฎ profiles โ 30mm sightlines, thermally broken solid steel
- Panels up to 3.6m wide โ no structural reinforcement required
- Weather resistance Class 6A โ 600 Pa, NEN-EN 12208 certified
- Qualisteelcoat surface โ any RAL finish, bronze and precious metal options
- Tolerance โค 0.5mm โ handcrafted in-house, start to finish
Royal Design Marbella is the exclusive distributor for Sky-Frame and MHB on the Costa del Sol. Every exterior system is specified, supplied and installed by the same team โ from the first site visit through to final commissioning.
When the brief is the glass architecture itself
Royal Glassea is the in-house glazing line of Royal Design Marbella. Developed for projects where glazing is the primary scope โ frameless enclosures, continuous systems across large spans, bespoke interior glass solutions. The same team, the same standards, the same process as every Royal Design Marbella project.
Royal Glassea โ glazing lineFrom brief to installation
Every sliding door system we produce follows the same process โ steel or Sky-Frame aluminium. Nothing critical is delegated. The same team manages each stage โ from the first site visit to the final adjustment on site.
- 01
Consultation and specification
We begin with the opening โ dimensions, wall depth, floor finish, ceiling conditions and the design intent. If you have drawings, we work from them. If not, we take measurements on site ourselves. Every element is confirmed in writing before fabrication begins. No interpretation, no assumptions left open.
- 02
Technical design
We develop the full technical specification โ frame profile, glass type, track system, hardware and finish. For Sky-Frame and MHB exterior systems, thermal and weather performance are confirmed at this stage. Where required, fabrication drawings are produced for architect approval before work begins.
- 03
Fabrication and quality control
Every element is produced to the agreed specification and checked before it leaves for site. Frame tolerances, glass dimensions, hardware alignment and finish consistency are verified at this stage โ not after installation. A sliding door that moves correctly for years is the result of precision here, not adjustment on site.
- 04
Installation by our own team
Our own team manages the on-site phase โ coordinating directly with the main contractor or project manager. Track alignment, panel adjustment and hardware commissioning are completed before we leave. We do not consider a project finished until the system operates exactly as it was designed to.
Lead time from approved drawings is confirmed before work begins. We communicate proactively if anything changes โ and flag access or sequencing requirements in advance.

What determines the cost of a sliding door system
A sliding door system is not a product with a fixed price โ whether in steel or Sky-Frame aluminium. It is a solution developed for a specific opening, and the cost reflects what that solution actually requires.
- Dimensions
Panel width, height and wall depth all affect the engineering. A wider panel requires a heavier track, more robust rollers and, in most cases, a thicker glass specification. Scale changes the system โ not just the material quantity.
- Track system
Top-hung, floor-guided and flush-floor configurations carry different fabrication and installation costs. A concealed ceiling track coordinated with the building works differs significantly from an exposed surface-mounted system.
- Glass specification
Clear toughened in a standard interior frame sits at one end. Acoustic laminated, thermally insulated double-glazed units for exterior applications sit at the other. The specification is determined by what the project requires โ not by what is simplest to source.
- System type
An interior bespoke steel system differs in scope and cost from a certified exterior system such as Sky-Frame aluminium or MHB steel. Both are project-specific solutions โ but the engineering, certification and hardware requirements are different.
- Installation
A straightforward single-panel installation differs from a multi-panel system coordinated with floor finishes, ceiling works and the main contractor's programme. The installation cost reflects the actual site conditions.

Send your briefFrequently asked questions about sliding doors
Questions we are asked regularly โ answered specifically for projects on the Costa del Sol.
-
A top-hung system suspends the panel from a ceiling or header track โ there is no floor guide rail, which means the floor surface runs uninterrupted beneath the door. This is the preferred option in premium interiors where continuity of the floor finish matters. A floor-guided system uses a track or channel in the floor to keep the panel aligned. It is structurally more straightforward in some configurations, but the visible floor element is a compromise for many projects. We advise on which is right for each opening during the specification stage.

Yes โ exterior sliding doors are one of the most requested applications on the Costa del Sol, where connecting a living space to a terrace or garden is often the central design intention of a renovation or new build. For exterior use, the system needs certified thermal performance, weather sealing and hardware rated for exposure. Royal Design Marbella installs Sky-Frame and MHB systems for these applications โ both are engineered specifically for exterior use, with certified thermal and weather resistance. We are the exclusive distributor for both on the Costa del Sol.
-
Sky-Frame is a frameless aluminium system โ the glass panel moves without a visible perimeter frame, creating the impression that the glass floats in the opening. It is the right choice when the design intent is to make the boundary between interior and exterior disappear. MHB uses a slim solid steel frame as part of the design โ precise, visible and architecturally considered. It is the right choice when the steel itself is part of the design language, not something to be hidden. Both are certified for exterior performance. The choice depends on the design intent, not on one being better than the other.
-
Yes โ Royal Design Marbella is the exclusive distributor for Sky-Frame on the Costa del Sol. We supply and install Sky-Frame aluminium systems directly, without going through a third party. If your architect has already specified Sky-Frame, we work from that specification and manage the supply, installation and coordination with the rest of the build programme. Having the exclusive distributor as the single point of responsibility removes a layer of coordination that would otherwise sit on your project manager's desk. The same applies to MHB systems.

For bespoke interior steel systems, single panels up to approximately 1,800โ2,000mm wide are achievable depending on the glass specification and track system. For Sky-Frame aluminium, panels up to 3,000mm wide per leaf are possible within the certified system parameters. For MHB steel, panels up to 3,600mm wide are achievable without structural reinforcement, thanks to the SL30-ISOยฎ profile system. The practical limit in each case is a combination of glass weight, track load rating and the structural conditions of the opening. We confirm this as part of the specification process.
-
The glass specification depends on the application. For interior systems: clear toughened is standard; laminated, satin, tinted or acoustic-grade glass are available where the project requires them. For exterior systems: thermally insulated double-glazed units with a thermal break are standard, and triple-glazed options are available in Sky-Frame configurations. The glass specification is confirmed as part of the technical design stage โ not selected from a catalogue at the end.

This is how many of our projects run. Many of our clients are based in the UK, Scandinavia or Central Europe and manage their Costa del Sol projects at a distance. We start with a detailed brief, confirm every element of the specification in writing before fabrication begins, and coordinate directly with whoever is managing the site โ your project manager, main contractor or interior designer. You do not need to be present. You need to be confident that the person managing your project understands it.
-
Working with architects and interior designers is where we spend most of our time. Your designer handles the design intent and the client relationship โ we handle the technical development, fabrication and installation. We work from their drawings, respond to technical questions with the detail they need, and flag any issues during the specification stage rather than on site. We do not need to be in every conversation, but we keep the right people informed at every stage.
-
For bespoke interior steel systems, we offer matte black, dark anthracite and brushed steel as standard, with bespoke RAL matching available. For Sky-Frame aluminium systems, the finish range includes standard and premium anodised and powder coat options determined by the system specification. For MHB steel systems, Qualisteelcoat-certified surface treatments are available, including bronze and precious metal finishes. Finish is confirmed at the specification stage and applied consistently across frame, track and hardware.

The more specific you can be, the faster and more useful our response will be. Ideally: architectural drawings or a dimensioned sketch of the opening, the location of the project, whether the application is interior or exterior, and the design intent in a sentence or two. If you have a finish or glass preference, include it. If you do not have drawings yet, a description of the project type, approximate dimensions and what you are trying to achieve is enough to start a useful conversation. Send us what you have and we will take it from there.
