Precise movement,
considered in every detail.
A hinged door in steel and glass does something that sounds simple and is technically demanding: it opens cleanly, closes precisely, sits perfectly in its frame โ and continues to do so without adjustment. Every door we produce is designed to the exact requirements of the opening.
Precision in every movement โ from the first day onwards.
A well-made hinged door in steel and glass does something that sounds simple and is technically demanding: it opens smoothly, closes cleanly, sits perfectly in its frame โ and continues to do so without adjustment. In a premium interior, these qualities are not optional.
Every hinged door we produce is designed to the exact requirements of the opening โ dimensions, glass specification, steel profile, hardware and finish โ in steel or aluminium, depending on what the project requires.
- 01 Steel and aluminium systems Material determined by the project โ profile, thermal performance, design intent
- 02 Single and double leaf With or without sidelights โ developed around the specific opening and facade
- 03 Interior and exterior From internal room doors to certified exterior entrance systems
- 04 Design, fabrication and installation Same team throughout โ from first consultation to final adjustment on site
What makes a hinged door the right choice.
A hinged door is the most common door type โ and the most demanding to get right. When it is specified in steel and glass, the tolerance for imprecision disappears entirely. These are the reasons it gets specified, and what makes ours different.
- 0101
Precision that holds over time
A hinged door in steel and glass that opens and closes correctly on installation day is not enough. The hinge specification, the frame tolerances and the glass weight must be resolved so that the door continues to operate without adjustment months and years later. This is what separates a well-engineered door from one that simply looks right at first glance.
- 0202
Steel or aluminium, determined by the brief
Steel gives the slimmest profiles and the most precise character for interior applications. Aluminium with a thermal break is the correct specification for exterior hinged doors on the Costa del Sol โ where weather resistance, thermal performance and longevity in a coastal climate are non-negotiable. We specify the material the project requires, not the one that is simplest to fabricate.
- 0303
Single leaf, double leaf or with sidelights
A hinged door system is not just the door panel. Fixed sidelights, toplights and adjacent glazed panels are part of the same design decision. We develop the full configuration โ door leaf, sidelights, frame proportions and hardware โ around the specific opening, the facade and the design intent of the project.
- 0404
Slim profiles, maximum glass
Steel allows frame sections that standard aluminium or timber systems cannot match. In an entrance door or an internal partition door, the profile is always visible โ and its proportion relative to the glass area defines the quality of the whole element. A slim steel frame with full-height glass reads as architecture. A heavy frame reads as a product.
- 0505
Designed to the opening, not to a catalogue
Every hinged door we produce is dimensioned, detailed and fabricated to the specific opening it is designed for. Height, width, glass type, hinge specification, hardware and finish are all determined by what the project requires. A standard door adapted to fit is not the same as a door designed from the opening. In a premium interior, the difference is immediately visible.
Every detail
specified for the opening
A hinged door that performs correctly for years is not the result of good installation alone. Every variable โ material, profile, glass weight, hinge specification and hardware โ is resolved before fabrication begins.
MHB โ the floating lock case door, since 1667.
For exterior hinged doors requiring certified thermal and weather performance, we specify and supply MHB โ their Floating Lock Case door in the patented SL30-ISOยฎ thermally broken steel profile. Ultra-slim sightlines, concealed lock case, tested to Class 7A water tightness and Class C5 wind load. MHB handles the installation. Royal Design Marbella manages the full process on the Costa del Sol.
MHB has been manufacturing precision steel systems in the Netherlands since 1667. Their Floating Lock Case door is based on a centuries-old design by a Swiss master blacksmith โ the lock case is concealed within the glass, made possible by advanced laser cutting and the ultra-slim SL30-ISOยฎ thermally broken profile. The result is a door of maximum security and minimal visual presence. Available in SL30-ISOยฎ, SL30-ISOยฎ-PLUS and CLASSIC-ISO-PLUS profiles, finished in any RAL colour or precious metals such as bronze.
- SL30-ISOยฎ thermally broken steel โ ultra-slim 1 3/16" sightline

Bespoke interior hinged doors in steel and glass.
Royal Glassea is the in-house glazing line of Royal Design Marbella โ developed for interior projects where the glass and steel architecture is the brief itself. Frameless hinged doors, floor-to-ceiling glass partitions with integrated door systems, and bespoke interior glazing designed around the exact dimensions and finish of the space. The same team, the same standards, the same process as every Royal Design Marbella project.
From brief
to installation
Every hinged door system we produce follows the same process. Nothing critical is delegated. The same team manages each stage โ from the first site visit and technical assessment through to final adjustment on site.
- 01
Consultation
and specificationWe begin with the opening โ dimensions, wall conditions, floor finish, ceiling height and the design intent. Configuration, material, glass specification and hardware are confirmed at this stage. If you have drawings, we work from them. If not, we take measurements on site ourselves. Every variable is agreed in writing before fabrication begins.
- 02
Technical
designWe develop the full technical specification โ material, frame profile, glass weight, hinge load rating, hardware and finish. For MHB exterior systems, thermal and weather performance are confirmed at this stage. Hinge specification and frame tolerances are resolved before a single component is made. Where required, fabrication drawings are produced for architect approval.
- 03
Fabrication
and quality controlEvery element is produced to the agreed specification and checked before it leaves for site. Frame tolerances, glass dimensions, hinge alignment and finish consistency are verified at this stage โ not after installation. A hinged door that opens and closes correctly for years is the result of precision here, not adjustment on site.
- 04
Installation
and final adjustmentFor our own steel and Royal Glassea interior systems, our team manages the on-site phase directly. For MHB exterior systems, installation is carried out by MHB โ Royal Design Marbella coordinates and manages the full process on site. Frame alignment, hinge adjustment and hardware commissioning are completed before handover. We do not consider a project finished until the door operates exactly as it was designed to.
Lead time from approved drawings is confirmed before work begins. We communicate proactively if anything changes โ and flag access or sequencing requirements in advance.

What determines
the cost of a hinged door system
A hinged door in steel and glass is not a product with a fixed price. It is a solution designed for a specific opening โ and the cost reflects the material, the configuration and what that solution actually requires.
- Material
Steel and aluminium carry different cost profiles. Interior steel systems and certified exterior aluminium systems with thermal break are not the same scope. The material is determined by what the project requires.
- Configuration
Single leaf, double leaf, with or without sidelights or toplights โ each configuration has different fabrication requirements. The more elements in the system, the more complex the hinge specification, frame alignment and hardware coordination.
- Glass specification
Clear toughened for an interior door sits at one end. Acoustic laminated or thermally insulated double-glazed units for exterior applications sit at the other. Glass weight also directly affects the hinge specification โ and therefore the cost of the system.
- System type
A bespoke interior steel door differs in scope and cost from a certified exterior MHB system. Both are project-specific solutions โ but the engineering, certification, hardware requirements and installation process are different.
- Installation
A straightforward single-leaf interior installation differs from a double-leaf exterior entrance coordinated with floor finishes, weather sealing and the main contractor's programme. The installation cost reflects the actual site conditions.

Send your brief Frequently asked questions
about hinged doors
Questions we are asked regularly about hinged door systems in steel and aluminium โ answered specifically for projects in Marbella, Benahavรญs, Estepona, Sotogrande and the wider Costa del Sol.
-
A hinged door rotates on hinges fixed to one side of the frame โ the door swings from the hinge side and is held by a latch or lock on the other. A pivot door rotates on a central or off-centre axis, typically with a floor pivot and a top pivot, with no visible hinges on the frame. Pivot doors are usually larger, make more of a visual statement and require more structural preparation. Hinged doors are more versatile across a wider range of applications โ from internal room doors to exterior entrance systems โ and are the correct specification when the opening and design do not require the presence of a pivot.
-
Steel allows the slimmest profiles and the most precise character โ it is the right choice for interior applications and where the frame needs to recede in favour of the glass. For exterior hinged doors on the Costa del Sol, aluminium with a thermal break is typically the correct specification: it provides the weather resistance, thermal performance and longevity that an exterior door in a coastal climate requires. The MHB Floating Lock Case system uses thermally broken steel, which gives the visual precision of steel with the performance credentials of a certified exterior system. The material is determined by the application and what the project requires.
-
The MHB Floating Lock Case is a hinged door system based on a centuries-old design by a Swiss master blacksmith. The lock case is concealed within the glass itself rather than sitting in the steel frame โ made possible by advanced laser cutting and the ultra-slim SL30-ISOยฎ thermally broken profile. The result is a door with maximum security and minimal visual presence: the hardware disappears and the glass dominates. It is certified to Class 4A water tightness (tested to Class 7A), wind load Class C3 (tested to C5), and thermal transmittance of up to Uw 0.74 W/mยฒK. Available with max leaf size 1300 ร 3200mm. Royal Design Marbella is the MHB partner on the Costa del Sol.
-
Yes โ and for many projects, the door leaf alone does not resolve the opening. Fixed sidelights on one or both sides, or a fixed toplight above the door, extend the glazed area and change the proportions of the entrance entirely. We develop the full configuration โ door leaf, sidelights, frame and hardware โ as a single system designed around the specific opening and facade. A sidelight is not an afterthought; it is part of the architectural decision and needs to be specified at the same stage as the door itself.
-
Yes โ exterior entrance doors in steel and glass are one of the most common requests we receive from villa owners and architects on the Costa del Sol. For exterior use, the system needs to be specified correctly: certified thermal performance, weather sealing appropriate for the exposure conditions, and hardware rated for a coastal climate. We install MHB exterior hinged systems for these applications โ certified to Class 7A water tightness and Class C5 wind load. Royal Design Marbella manages the full process, from specification and supply through to coordination and handover, across Marbella, Benahavรญs, Estepona and Sotogrande.
-
For interior systems, clear toughened glass is standard. Laminated, satin, tinted, sandblasted or acoustic-grade glass are available depending on what the project requires โ privacy, acoustic separation or specific light quality. For exterior MHB systems, thermally insulated double-glazed units with a thermal break are standard. Glass weight directly affects the hinge specification โ a heavier glass unit requires a more robust hinge load rating and frame design. The glass is specified as part of the engineering, not chosen at the end as a finish option.
-
For bespoke interior steel systems, matte black, dark anthracite and brushed steel are standard, with bespoke RAL matching available where the frame needs to align with a specific material palette. For MHB exterior systems, the full MHB finish range is available โ standard and premium powder coat colours and precious metal finishes including bronze. Finish is confirmed at the specification stage and applied consistently across frame, hinges and hardware. For exterior applications on the Costa del Sol, finish durability in a coastal climate is confirmed before specification is finalised.
-
For bespoke interior systems and Royal Glassea glazing solutions, our team manages the installation directly โ from frame alignment and hinge setting through to final adjustment and handover. For MHB exterior systems, installation is carried out by MHB; Royal Design Marbella coordinates and manages the full process on site. In both cases, structural conditions, wall substrate, floor finish and door weight are assessed before fabrication begins. We do not consider a project complete until the door opens, closes and operates exactly as it was designed to.
-
Working with architects and interior designers is where we spend most of our time. We work from their drawings, develop the technical specification in coordination with their team, and respond to technical questions with the level of detail they need. We flag issues during specification โ not on site. If a hinged door system is part of the project, we manage our scope without adding complexity to the programme and keep the right people informed at each stage.
-
The more specific you can be, the faster and more useful our response will be. Ideally: architectural drawings or a dimensioned sketch of the opening, the project location, whether the application is interior or exterior, the configuration you have in mind (single leaf, double, with sidelights) and a brief description of the design intent. If you have a finish preference or glass type in mind, include it. If you do not have drawings yet, a description of the opening, the project type and what you are trying to achieve is enough to start a useful conversation. Send us what you have โ we will take it from there.
