BAUHAUS DESSAU
Renovation of a modernist icon in Germany
The Bauhaus Dessau stands as one of the most influential architectural landmarks of the twentieth century. Designed by Walter Gropius to embody the principles of light, openness, and functional clarity, its renovation required an approach that would respect the building’s historic significance while meeting contemporary technical standards. For this project, a bespoke steel profile system was developed to precisely replicate the original detailing. The result was the Classic-ISO® profile, derived from the SL30-ISO® system, created specifically to match the Bauhaus equal-leg proportions while delivering exceptional thermal insulation and durability. The intervention preserves the modernist identity of the building while ensuring performance suited to today’s requirements. It demonstrates how innovation in steel systems can support the restoration of heritage architecture without compromising authenticity.
